The songs, in true Schizopolitans form, break down the boundaries of genre labels. In one moment the music infiltrates your bones with a futuristic synth, then compels your attention with a futuristic, deconstructed rock fury. In the next moment, it is art rock with an avant-garde, Nintendo-esque quality.”

“But fundamentally all Schizopolitans music is about rhythm, so no matter how dense and abstract the music might get, or how theatrical Xtevion’s vocals might be, there’s always a babymaking groove that holds everything together.”

“What do Schizopolitans ‘feel’ like? Sound has texture, a feeling, a vibe if all goes well, and theirs is congealed somewhere in the range of a space odyssey coming down from peyote. Sometimes little bits of vague memories or paranoia are scrambled in as well.”
— Chad Sorg, God Hates Reno
"Any band that asks you to refer to them by their alter ego and lists their main instrument as a Big Black Stick is begging you to dig a little deeper

“Truthfully one of the bands that convinces me that Reno will always have something to offer the world because I can’t find anything like them anywhere else.”

Three men: one drummer, two bassists, three laptops, and a weirdo. Since initiated in 2004 by performance artist/percussionist Xtevion, Schizopolitans have been Reno Nevada's premier Avant-Rock combo. Schizopolitans create a dense aural landscape that is often epic in scope. The material plays out like short film soundtracks that transport the listener into unknown territories. Schizopolitans make movies in your mind. Over the years there have been many incarnations, but Xtevion and his voice remain the driving force that remains constant. Xtevion's classical theatre training informs an exciting and slightly dangerous persona that adds to the mysterious nature of the music. In 2006 he created his own electronic percussion instrument "the Big Black Stick" which adds another striking visual and sonic element to the performances. Andy Jorgensen's skillfully wicked bass grooves keep the blood pumping and flowing while Hector Urtubia (aka Next Door Ninja) mans the console with playful rhythms and warm melodics as well as playing the fretless bass on some of the heavier songs. Over and under that is Xtevion making strange mouth sounds and pounding the drums and electronic percussion augmented with occasional other worldly sound effects. Almost all of Schizopolitans' material is created from recorded improvisations and often maintains the feeling of discovery found in the initial inspirations. The lyrics predominately come from decoding and structuring the phonetic ramblings and wailings found on the initial recordings and are undecidedly open to interpretation. The current line-up (Version 8.0) has been creating together since 2008 and has amassed a huge amount of recorded material, some of which will inevitably be unleashed on to the public for their consumption. ...Most bands play music...
