Description:
“Keep it simple and raw”, that was the goal when The Sextones booked a few hours at The Sound Saloon Recording Studio with cameras rolling. The modest and dusty studio, in a partially abandoned warehouse was the perfect atmosphere for the group to perform the title track from their acclaimed debut album, “Moonlight Vision.” The Sextones light up the room with a passionate, and honest, one-take performance. Inspired by the 1969 cult classic film Easy Rider, the track ‘Moonlight Vision’ shows a rockier side of The Sextones that flashes strokes of Jimi Hendrix’s Band Of Gypsys, Funkadelic, and early Sly Stone. The music in the movie acted as fuel to propel the characters on their cross country mission. They were different than the status quo of the lands they travelled through. They rebelled and stood for the new generation of beatnicks. A countercultural movement of the past that echoes similarities of todays clash of youth and a rigid opposition. This acted as inspiration for the lyrical theme enveloping the song and the groups overall gusto. Seeing the film reignited a long-time aspiration for the group to write a fuzzed out, guitar centered rock song that brings forth vibes from an era where psychedelic rock and soul music were from the same energetic essence. “The song is about feeling restless and wanting to overcome obstacles. A ‘Moonlight Vision’ is a seemingly unattainable goal that keeps you up at night. There is a zealous desire in all of us to say ‘I told you so’ to people who said you can’t do something. The best revenge is success.” says guitarist Mark Sexton. The Sextones have musical chops beyond their years, and this new video shows how well-versed the band is across musical styles. The members have been touring since they were minors in high school, and now continue to spread the sound with The Sextones on an upcoming European Tour tour. This jam is best listened to on a motorcycle at max volume while speeding across the desert border. Lyrics: You say you want your freedom, you're afraid to buy it I'm riding on fumes but a small flame’s ignited Off to a destination I dream of and live in When I make it there, I’ll make it there without collision When I close my eyes my head comes alive with the sights of a Moonlight Vision Moonlight Vision I've got the Moonlight vision There will be no sleeping, only time for dreaming I do my best work when the moon is beamin’ Up since 2 with a bad case of this condition When I make it there I’ll make it there without collision When I close my eyes my head comes alive with the sights of a Moonlight Vision I've got the Moonlight Vision Videography: Kris Swanson, Ruta Swanson, and Eddie Vigil V Recorded and Mixed at The Sound Saloon by Colin Christian For more info visit: www.thesextonesmusic.com Mark Sexton - Guitar & Vocals Alexander Korostinsky - Bass Daniel Weiss - Drums Ryan Taylor - Keys Videography/Editing - Kris Swanson & Ruta Swanson Mixing/Mastering - Colin Christian
