Inspired by the likes of Matthew Logan Vasquez, Shakey Graves, and other folk songwriters, Austin-based singer/songwriter Carter Gardner began writing music at a young age. For years Carter played alone in his room, until one night, when a friend overheard a song. This friend, Scott, asked Carter if he had ever shared his music with other people. Before that night, sharing his music is never something Carter had considered. Eventually, Scottie boy convinced him to play a song, and Carter has been playing for folks ever since. In the fall of 2017, Carter began playing with classically trained pianist Jon Jon Clover-Brown. Having both grown up listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lightnin' Hopkins and other Texas blues legends, the two inevitably played the blues together for the first time. From that moment on, there was no turning back. Not long after, the duo was introduced to Andrew Read, a dynamic blues/jazz percussionist, and Eric Loop, a talented multi-instrumentalist. Thanks to Andrew, JJ & Eric, Carter's vision of converging blues, jazz, and folk finally came to fruition playing his own works with The Carter Gardner Band. Since then, Carter & the band have been playing out every chance they get including playing local Austin joints with Dayglow, Family and Friends & Pacific, hometown Deep Ellum shows w/ Sam Johnston, College Station charity benefits, and playing the same stage as Rayland Baxter and St. Paul & The Broken Bones in Starkville, Mississippi.
