Emerging onto the Livetronica scene in the mid-noughties, Silvermouse grew from two distinct roots in UK rave culture and American jam rock. The merging of these worlds gave life to the meditative, entrancing, ecstatic, and energized psychedelic soundscapes that comprise the duo’s signature sound. The fusion is deep. Jo Hunt (electronic) and Justin Handley (multi-instrumentalist) are partners in both music and life. The pair dream, spin their visions, and raise their family of mystical animals, a couple of feral children, innumerable medicinal plants, and many tropical fruit trees at the farm and food forest they call home. As a 90s UK rave kid turned planetary wanderer and beat-seeker, Jo found herself at one of Justin’s early solo shows, where he layered conversations between various stringed instruments and the flute over a pre-recorded drum track. At the show, Jo heard what Justin saw - where the music wanted to be. She felt the adventure of a new path rising to meet her traveling feet and opened herself to the process. Justin, released from ‘playing to’ a drum track, was free to go deep into multi-instrumentalism while playing WITH the techno, house, and drum&bass inspired textures that Jo began throwing down. And Silvermouse’s evolving language was born. Their past three album releases have been psychedelic odysseys - 50+ minute non-stop live sets, recorded outdoors with ecstatic humans at recording parties hosted by the artists in their favorite locations. Nature and the psychedelic experience of cosmic living are the duo’s forever-muses. The forces of union and expansion drive Silvermouse’s sound - rooting deeply into the earth while taking off into full energetic flight. Silvermouse’s current project, ‘Psychoactive,’ is a deep journeying dive into the potential of music as a psychoactive entity.
