Under the moniker Rootiger, Mark Dunford writes, records and performs indie rock music with a 90s nostalgia influence. Artists ranging from Gillian Welch to Built to Spill have shaped Rootiger’s taste and helped him navigate the world as a young artist toward the style of music he now creates. Since his start as a young and passionate kid picking up his older brother’s guitar at 15, Dunford honed his craft, learning several instruments, perfecting his producing skills and working toward a vocal sound all his own. A young guy with an old, quirky soul lend to his style of music which is sometimes Americana, and sometimes fuzzed out indie rock. With an acoustic or electric guitar Dunford tells a story with his songwriting, often touching on themes of small-town nostalgia and soul-searching adventure. After joining the United States Air Force at 18, he used any spare time he had learning several instruments and making crude home recordings in a cabin in rural, Southern New Mexico. In 2018, Dunford continued expanding his musicianship and artistry at Berklee College of Music in Boston. His debut single “Shotgun Seat,” off an upcoming EP out this fall, proves Rootiger’s ability to tell unique coming of age stories that will keep his music timeless to listeners young and old. Less
