Alexander Nobles, Piano & Vocals May Byrom, Vocals & Percussion Truman Clark, Guitar Ian McKinney, Guitar Mariel Bardon, Bass Maxx Mercer, Drums They knew each other since they were kids. They played in different bands, but never together until a series of happy accidents in 2018. Alexander and Maxx were hired by Austin choreographer Shen Jun to score a dance project. They brought in Ian to play guitar. After the show, they decided to make a band around Alexander’s songs. Maxx called up his friend, Truman, to play a second guitar. The quartet recorded a two-song demo, with “Bitch” and “The Roll.” One is a loungey jazz strut, the other is a psychedelic stomp, but the songs together had staked out the Nobles’ range. Truman brought May Byrom to a Nobles show at Austin’s legendary “Love Goat” dive. She loved the band, and soon as they heard May sing, they loved her. May introduced the Nobles to Mariel Bardon, who was teaching at Austin’s School of Rock. Alexander said, “We’re looking for a bass player, ages 17 to 28.” Mariel said, “I’m a bass player, 17 to 28.” In November 2018, they released “The Night’s Too Long,” a single combined with the earlier tracks. The EP is available on all major media platforms. Less
