Rosie Plaza first formed when former college roommates, Angel Ibarra (bass) and Nick Musni (guitar/vocals) reunited in the Bay Area to complete teacher credentialing programs in the spring of 2015. After writing and searching for percussionists for over a year, they finally recruited drummer and skilled sound engineer, Russ Arteaga--a former coworker and parent of one of Nick’s first students. Originally formed under the moniker, Bad Wife, the three quickly got to work recording and performing their first EP, “DIY and DIE Trying,” releasing the project digitally and on cassette in the fall 2017. Almost immediately after the release, in an effort at greater inclusivity and to honor Nick’s beloved late pet hedgehog, the band rebirthed under its current name, Rosie Plaza.  Based in Oakland, CA, the trio has developed a highly original sound that shifts between 90s to mid-aughts indie rock and 80s post-punk. Complete with angular guitar lines, and driving bass and drums, Rosie Plaza writes songs that are at the same time poignantly sentimental and nostalgically angsty. Their music harkens back to a time when the UK dominated alternative airwaves with danceable anthems such as The Chameleon’s, “Don’t Fall” and New Order’s classic, “Ceremony,” while recalling more relatively current musical comparisons such as the Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Silversun Pickups, and Cloud Nothings.  Their highly anticipated debut album, “Off/On” is slated to be released digitally and on vinyl on February 1st, 2020.
