Watch Liverpool band Vile Assembly perform ‘Body Bags’ in an exclusive gig at The Shankly Hotel for Signature Live Sessions. Despite owning a music studio in Liverpool together for two decades, friends Paul Mason, Mark Webb and Mark Wainwright only recently contemplated making music of their own. But after an avid conversation in New York, the punk-rock band Vile Assembly was conceived. Self-described as musical whistle-blowers on an unjust society, the band’s music attempts to say what needs to be said about society through the universally understood medium of music. Paul Mason (the band’s lyricist and vocalist) was formerly a poet and has previously attempted to understand the worst of the world by stepping into the shoes of those less fortunate than himself, opting to live on the streets of Liverpool for a month so he could experience destitution first hand, before repeating the experience in San Diego. From there he was inspired to write a number of poems, the main being ‘The Lonely Tramp in Liverpool’. Vile Assembly released a debut album in May 2018, titled ‘Fattened by the Horrors of War’, which offered a snapshot of how the band perceived our world today. With subjects ranging from religion to homelessness and political corruption, stand-outs include ‘Gone’, which explores entrapment within capitalism, ‘Suicide Feast’ and ‘Body Bags’. Signature Living’s Signature Live Sessions are unique live music performances in Liverpool, giving you the chance to see Liverpool’s latest and greatest artists live on the Eden rooftop at The Shankly Hotel every month.
