Mbuso Shongwe A.K.A Makwande.sa (22/11/1999) is a South African possessional cornet player, multi-instrumentalist, composer and a producer. Mbuso is currently a TUT student and is taught by Ndabo Zulu, an award-winning South African jazz trumpeter. Mbuso's love for music began early in his life, as his parents played music every morning as they prepared him for school. This awakened and catalyzed his interest in music. In 2008, Mbuso joined a school choir at Mc Weiler Primary School. There he participated and excelled in choir competitions for the first time, competing with various schools across Gauteng, South Africa. From there he was introduced to a music school called SAMET, where he attended classes every Saturday morning, sharpening his craft in his consistent pursuit of excellence . A year later, he decided to play the marimba. He could not resist its soulful African sound and expanded his musical library to make a home for African rhythms. Another year passed in this journey and he was acquainted with and mastered the tenor saxophone. Unfortunately, the saxophone class was full, and Mbuso was moved to the trumpet class, where he found his musical identity. "I do not think I chose the instrument; it chose me." He always says. Bio:mbuso shongwe In 2010, Mbuso joined the Alexandra Field Band Foundation, where he solidified his sound and craft as a trumpet player. Later, in 2015, he joined the Moses Molelekwa Arts Foundation where he met Mr Jerry Molelekwa, father of the late piano legend Moses Taiwa Molelekwa. Mr Jerry Molelekwa was a great mentor and contributed a lot to his style and discipline. Mr Jerry Molelekwa taught him not only about music but also about life and the importance of approaching God and incorporating music in spiritual pursuits. At the Moses Molelekwa Arts Foundation, he connected and found community. At the foundation a bond was instinctively established between himself and Ofentse Sebula, a proficient tenor saxophone player. Ofentse Sebula gave Mbuso the opportunity to be featured in his debut album H.O.P.E (Holding on to Positive Expectations). Ofentse Sebula was also Mbuso's greatest inspiration. Mbuso was moved by his ability to create worlds and stories through melodies. Thami Mahlangu is also noted as a friend, brother, and teacher. "I strongly believe that music is a gift that allows one to express one's feelings through different types of sounds and rhythms, and I feel blessed to be among those who have received this musical gift." Mbuso draws inspiration from genres such as jazz, hip-hop, kwaito, RNB, soul, house, African music and Afro- pop. He is also inspired by artists such as Christian Scott, Clifford Brown, Roney Wallace, Ambrose, Ndabo Zulu, Nduduzo Makhathini, Marcus Wyatt, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Black Coffee and many more. "I want to tell a story with my music, I want people to feel like everything is going to be okay when they listen to my music, I want to give hope through my music, and I want people to believe through my music." music: Inevitable feeling Inevitable feeling was inspired by a feeling of love. Love is a beautiful feeling that we all need to experience, so I had to find a way to share this inevitable feeling of love through sounds and melodies. Produced by Phonikz I recently finished recording a single called “SheIslight. In it I featured artists whom I go to school with and have projects of their own. I featured Constance Mokoena who is the vocalist in the song, Ofentse Sebula featured me in his album “H.O.P.E", Diteboho Kobedi who has a single “Diteboho" and an EP he just released called “Light a candle" lastly is Thato Modika AKA Phonikz who played lead guitar, bass and did the production of the song, he also has a single called “overwhelming” music: she's light A song written to empower women to believe in their dreams. Everyone has a purpose in life so I wanted to empower women to strongly believe that they are beautiful and have a purpose and a dream to chase. Produced by Phonikz and Diteboho Kobedi achievements • In 2016 I got the opportunity to play for South African National Youth Orchestra with Marcus Wyatt and Zoe Modiga.• 2017 I participated in the Makhanda Jazz Festival and got to be part of jazz ensemble with the tutor being the late Brian Thusi. • 2018 I played in a big band led by Khaya Mahlangu.• 2020 I did a live recording with the South African RNB singer Elaine Mukheli and played with Tressor in Market theatre for a Hugh Masekela Festival.• I also had an opportunity to share a stage with Christian Mcbride, Joey de Francesco and Benjamin Jephtah.• I worked with Ciza, Daliwonga, Tony Durardo and Seekay in the genre of amapiano• I managed to release a single on 14th of February 2021 called “Inevitable feeling” the song is available on every music platform.• I recently joined an Orchestra around PTA called COMPO (Community Philharmonic Orchestra) and we had a chance to share the stage with one of South African's saxophonist Mr McCoy Mrubata.• Featured in the album H.O.P.E by Moses Ofentse Sebula. I got the opportunity to play at the sun arena with Black motion. Also got there to play again with an orchestra which was orchestrated by Ofentse Pitse.
