Since forming in 2016, Dainesly has become a staple of the eclectic Reno/Tahoe music scene. At first glance it may be easy to pigeonhole them as a straight-ahead honky-tonk band but one listen to their debut album “Snatching Defeat from the Jaws of Victory” exposes the listener to sonic nuances tinged in lo-fi psychedelia and a lyrical deftness not usually present on a debut effort. Sitting somewhere between a country-fied Tom Petty and a reserved J. Roddy Walston, the outfit is a classic sounding amalgam of country guitar stylings, steadfast rhythms, and singable hooks. What started as a solo project for lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Bryan Daines has quickly gained momentum with the addition of a rhythm section whose pedigree speaks for itself – Alex Korostinsky and Aaron Chiazza of Whatitdo and The Sextones hold down bass and drums respectively while Shawn Tamborini of Jake Houston & The Royal Flush rounds out the band on pedal steel. The members’ combined sure-handedness, stage presence, and overall abilities make a live Dainesly show an unforgettable experience.
